Hastert Discusses Change in Power of U.S. House
(IRN)-The change in power in the U. S. House of Representatives is reminiscent of the mid-1990’s, but this time Denny Hastert is a spectator.

The former Congressman from Yorkville, who followed Newt Gingrich as speaker, says current Speaker John Boehner has a personal style somewhat like Hastert's, and unlike former Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

"I always had a saying as a coach," says Hastert, "that if the coach is in the headlines every week, the team's in trouble. If the team's in the headlines every week, they're doing great."

Hastert says there is no reason to politicize the Tucson shootings of last Saturday. As for the safety of our elected leaders, Hastert says in his case, he would arrange for a uniformed police officer to be nearby at appearances; otherwise, you need to live your life and be among the people; that he says, is what democracy is all about.
