Moffitt Optimistic for Bi-Partisanship
State Representative Don Moffitt says a lot he's optimistic for Illinois lawmakers to solve the state's budget mess. He's said that though he admits there's not been a solution yet.

The Gilson Republican was one of a number of lawmakers sworn in this past week for the 97th Illinois General Assembly, and tells WGIL's Springfield reporter Dave Dahl he thinks while he's expressed optimism in the past, it really is there this time.

"I really think there's a real desire among the Legislature to work together, reach across the center aisle," Moffitt said. "Those that voted for the tax increase, they want things to work out; they want things to improve. So, we have the same objectives; the only question is how do we get there. I think we, very intentionally, needs to be looking for ways to look together."

Moffitt did not support the income tax increase, but he says now that it has passed, a strong focus needs to be cast on solving the state budget crisis, all while somehow trying to keep jobs here and gain new jobs.

He says, however, a tax increase can make that task harder.
