IL Senate Aims to Oust Unconfirmed Appointees
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) -- Illinois Senate President John Cullerton's lawyer says some of Gov. Pat Quinn's top appointees are now working for free because lawmakers have never confirmed them.

Cullerton has introduced legislation that would limit the amount of time a gubernatorial appointee may serve without Senate confirmation. After that, they're out.

Currently, acting directors may serve indefinitely.
Eric Madiar is Cullerton's chief lawyer. He told reporters Tuesday that Illinois State Police Director Jonathon Monken, Corrections Director Gladys Taylor and 13 other salaried appointees should no longer get paychecks, even without Cullerton's legislation.

That's because their appointments expired when a new General Assembly was sworn in last week.

Quinn's office hasn't responded to a request for comment.
