Mayor Interprets Doctor King's Message -- LISTEN TO KING BREAKFAST HERE
Galesburg Mayor Sal Garza said everyone already knew that he had issued a proclamation in support of Martin Luther King, Junior Day Monday, so he said he wanted to speak instead about King's message.

Garza was one of those who did speak at the annual King Day Breakfast hosted by the local King Celebration Committee Monday, this year held at Central Congregational Church.

The mayor says much of what Doctor King's legacy has to do with is summed up in one word: unification.

"Unification as it improves the quality of living in our community and that means the true integration of not only people but idea; of their messages, of their culture, of their backgrounds, of their life experiences."

Garza says King's spirit is with everyone, and is felt every time people reach out to friends, neighbors, and others.

He says that sort of unification, while on display at events like the breakfast, is done every day of the year.
