Tax Increase Already in Effect
(IRN)-Illinois taxpayers are paying more, even now, because of last week's income tax hike, passed by the legislature and signed by the governor. And the lawmakers who voted for it will pay with their jobs, if certain political action committees have their way.

Paul Caprio, director of Family PAC, says the vote as the last General Assembly was expiring last week proves Governor Pat Quinn is an "indentured servant" of major unions.

He and a social service executive disagree, though, on whether the increased taxes will encourage Illinois businesses to leave. Caprio believes it's simply the final "nail in the coffin," while Don Moss, director of United Cerebral Palsy of Illinois, says once the uproar dies down, most people will realize the tax increase was needed, and that the state is so far in the hole it cannot just cut its way out.
