Loyola Hospital Has 1st Baby of 2010
MAYWOOD, Ill. (AP) -- It took all of one second into the new year for Cook County's newest resident to arrive.

That's the word from Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, where officials say Alejandra Maya Arroyo was born one second after 2010 turned into 2011.

Hospital spokeswoman Stasia Thompson says that nobody at the hospital has heard if there was a birth anywhere in Illinois or the rest of the Midwest before Rosalanida Arroyo gave birth to her daughter.

Thompson says both mother and daughter, and father Alejandro Arroyo, for that matter, are doing fine. She says the Cicero couple's daughter weighed in at 5 pounds and 11 ounces and measured 18 inches long.
