Grants Encourage Conservation Practices
(IRN)-Grant money is available for innovative approaches to conservation.

The Natural Resources Conservation Service has extended the signup date for Conservation Innovation Grants.

Approximately $550,000 is available for FY 2011. According to Ivan Dozier, assistant state conservationist for programs, funds will be awarded through a two-phase competitive grant process.

Some projects that came to fruition through last years grants included a demonstration of a two stage ditch that reduced the amount of nutrient run off.

The projects must meet specific criteria including encouraging use of market-based agricultural systems and using environmentally sound approaches.

Pre-proposals are being accepted through January 28th and can be submitted by state or local units of government, non-governmental organizations and individuals.
