Western Names New President
Western Illinois University in Macomb has announced its selection for the school's eleventh president.

The university's current Provost and Academic Vice President Jack Thomas will be taking over for retiring president Al Goldfarb.

Thomas says one of his biggest challenges will be the school's budget and receiving state funding in a timely manner.

"The key right now if you look at most institutions, those presidents are going to the legislators individually. I think we're going to have to get together as presidents to work collectively; President Goldfarb has already been working with some presidents but I think we're going to have to send a message collectively as presidents to the legislators about the dire need."

The state owes Western around $50 million all told.
Goldfarb will retire in July and Thomas will work closely with him during that time to transition into the new role.
