IL Lt. Governor and Husband Worth $587,000
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) -- Illinois Lt. Gov. Sheila Simon is disclosing a net worth of $587,000 as a way to pledge transparency in office.

At a Statehouse news conference Thursday, Simon said she's swearing off campaign contributions from employees and is banning her staff from taking free lunches from lobbyists.

Simon and her college professor husband reported assets of $624,000, including real estate worth $426,000. They list liabilities of $38,000. She says that's credit card debt while she campaigned and didn't work.

The Democrat's $136,000 salary as lieutenant governor will improve on her 2010 income, mostly $36,000 as a college professor for three months.

Husband Perry Knop made $88,000 at John A. Logan College.
A spokeswoman for Gov. Pat Quinn hasn't responded to questions about whether he'll do the same thing.
