Illinois Lawmakers: More Work to Do
(IRN)-State lawmakers say there is unfinished business to address in the coming legislative session.

Lawmakers must still reform workers' compensation, as well as work on property tax relief, say a handful of Democratic state senators.

State Senator Mattie Hunter says one version of the state budget included property tax relief. That version wasn't passed. "We had permanent property tax relief in the budget but it was taken out," Hunter said. "Many of our colleagues were not willing to take that step at that particular time."

State Senator William Delgado has introduced a bill that deals with property tax relief. "It would be a property tax relief trust fund," Delgado said. "I anticipate having a committee debate on that. I am concerned with its finality to see what indeed if we can start that conversation again."

As far as workers' compensation reform, Hunter said there was only so much lawmakers could do in the short time of the lame duck session, but adds that there is a bill out there and it is not a dead issue.
