Knox County United Way Honors Volunteers Past and Present
The United Way of Knox County held it's annual meeting Friday to recognize those who help the organization throughout the year.

Awards were handed out for the most gracious giver and active advocate.
This year the organization also created a new award category, the Guy Vitale Award, says Executive Director Ann Tucker.

"We just felt not only as a community, but as our organization that we really lost a true believer in the United Way and this was just our way for keeping his spirit, his enthusiasm for the United Way and the importance of the United Way, going and we wanted to honor him for everything he had done for us."

Board of Directors President Kelli Bennewitz presented the award to Galesburg Area Chamber of Commerce President Bob Maus.

"He afforded us the opportunity to think outside the box, to structure goals and objective that are attainable and to just plan rejuvenate our board and our members. His service and his time, which he offered at no charge to the United Way, were invaluable and we sincerely thank him for his service."

Guy Vitale was a local businesses owner and community activist who passed away last year.
