Senators Look into Airport Expansion
(IRN)-Two of Illinois' lawmakers are focused on improving Illinois airports infrastructure.

U.S. Senator Mark Kirk says his continued focus remains on the O’Hare Airport Modernization Program.

"If O'Hare can regain its top status against the competition from Hartsfield International, we will build a synergy between growing local employment and international markets, founded on the top airport in America," Kirk said, referring to the airport in Atlanta.

Kirk says he will work to bring additional federal dollars to the program. Two major airlines that currently operate at O’Hare want the project stalled and don't want to pay into the OMP saying expanding capacity isn't necessary at this time.

American Airlines and United Airlines have filed suit in the matter. Kirk says he and U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin plan to meet with them on January 26th in hopes of brining about a resolution.

Meanwhile Governor Pat Quinn says "full speed ahead" when it comes to a third Chicago area airport in Peotone.

"I'd like to see that that airport be built in the next four years," Quinn said. "We have adequate funding for it."
