IL Supreme Court No Stranger to Politics
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) -- The court that will decide whether Rahm Emanuel can run for mayor of Chicago is no stranger to politics.

The four Democrats and three Republicans on the Illinois Supreme Court are elected in contests that can be vicious and expensive. Some justices have long-standing political ties.

That includes Justice Anne Burke, who is married to a powerful Chicago alderman who supports an Emanuel rival.

But experts say the court tends to stick to the law and avoid political games.
Election attorney Adam Lasker says the Supreme Court's caution could make it tough for Emanuel. He wants the court to overturn a lower ruling that threw him off the ballot.

The court agreed Tuesday to consider Emanuel's case, but there's no way to know when it will issue a ruling.
