IL Governor Responds as States Try to Poach Jobs
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) -- Governor Pat Quinn is fighting back against states that are trying to lure away jobs now that Illinois has raised income taxes.

Quinn had particularly strong words for New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who is running ads urging businesses to leave Illinois.

Quinn said Tuesday that he doesn't know why anyone would listen to Christie about balancing a budget or creating jobs. He says Christie is laying off New Jersey teachers and canceling valuable construction projects.

Quinn also says Illinois has more to offer business than most Midwestern states and can compete with its neighbors despite the tax increase.

Illinois' personal income taxes went up by two-thirds and the corporate rate climbed by almost half under a law approved earlier this month.
