Braun Left as Main Black Candidate in Chicago Mayor Race
CHICAGO (AP) -- Two prominent black Chicago politicians who recently dropped out of the race for mayor in Chicago have thrown their support behind a former U.S. senator who is the leading black candidate left in the race.

U.S. Rep. Danny Davis and state Sen. James Meeks implored Chicagoans during a rally at the Rainbow PUSH Coalition on Saturday to vote for former Sen. Carol Moseley Braun.

Davis and Meeks say it is important that there be one African American candidate and that it is time they put aside their egos to give an African American the best chance to win.

Moseley Braun is vying with former White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel, former Chicago Schools President Gery Chico, and City Clerk Miguel del Valle to replace retiring Mayor Richard Daley.
