Trial Ordered for Woman Accused of Workplace Theft
QUINCY, Ill. (AP) -- A western Illinois woman has pleaded not guilty and was ordered to stand trial in April on a theft charge tied to allegations she pilfering roughly $300,000 from her employer while working as a bookkeeper.

Forty year old Melanie Zanger of the Adams County village of Plainville entered the plea Tuesday to a felony theft charge.

The Quincy Herald-Whig reports that an investigator testified that Zanger admitted inappropriately buying personal items with money taken from Orville Loos Co. Quincy Police Detective Gabe VanderBol also testified that Zanger used one of the company's checks to pay off a more than $74,000 mortgage and a $2,000 check to buy jewelry.

Zanger was arrested in October and is free on bond.
The charge is punishable by up to seven years in prison.
