Law Requires LLCs to Register with State
(IRN)-There's a new requirement in place to better protect some consumers facing problems with their health care providers.

A new state law means that Limited Liability Companies formed by licensed health care providers and other professionals must register with the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation.

IDFPR spokeswoman Susan Hoffer says medical and professional service corporations have long been required to register. With LLCs becoming popular with licensed professional including doctors and dentists, Hoffer says it's only natural to extend the requirement to LLCs as well.

Registration provides information to consumers as well as IDFPR, including disclosure of the licensee responsible for the operation of the LLC. Hoffer says patients who run into problems regarding billing and other matters can now seek assistance from IDFPR. The registration requirement establishes a new level of regulatory oversight to make sure health care consumers receive the same protection regardless of how their provider's practice is structured.
