AGI Closing Plant in Jacksonville
JACKSONVILLE, Ill. (AP) -- A London-based company which makes packaging materials for CDs and DVDs says it is closing its Jacksonville plant and laying off its 80 workers there.

AGI North America blames the closing of the 17 year old plant largely on consumers' shift to online music and movie purchases.

AGI tells the (Springfield) State Journal-Register the Jacksonville operations will move to a suburban Chicago facility by the end of June.

aGI is one of the world's largest suppliers of packaging for entertainment, gaming and computer products, serving such major clients as Disney, ESPN, Sony, Universal Music, Microsoft and EMI.

The company has been scaling back its Jacksonville operations since EMI Music cut back and eventually shut down its compact-disc manufacturing plant there nearly five years ago.
