Work to begin on Courthouse Soon
Progress is slow but steady for renovations to the Knox County Courthouse.

County Board Chairman Greg Bacon tells WGIL exterior work on the courthouse will begin soon, but it's all being done with an eye toward the future.

"Everything we're doing right now is with an eye on the addition. So everything we do right now as far as outside and inside, will not have to be tore out if the addition become a reality. it's all with the planning of the addition being built on and if the addition doesn't get built on then the stuff is still good. We're still planning on the addition, we're still working toward it."

Bacon says construction will begin on outside work like reconditioning the outside limestone, fixing drainage gutters and roof work with a couple months when the bidding process is complete.

Board members were told at this month's meeting the parking lot for the courthouse will be put "on the back burner" the ensure there are enough funds to finish work on the building itself.

The county is selling three million dollars in bonds for the courthouse renovations.
