AG Urges Consumers to Protect Online Identities
CHICAGO (AP) -- The Illinois attorney general is urging consumers to protect their personal information online from financial fraud and privacy invasions.

Attorney General Lisa Madigan says Illinoisans need to remain vigil to protect their Internet identities. Madigan said residents can use steps provided by OnGuard Online for tips. OnGuard is a consortium of federal government agencies and technology industry experts.

Suggestions include using anti-virus software and a firewall, turning off wireless networks when they're not being used and not assuming public Internet connections are secure. Experts say consumers should assume other people can see anything sent over a public wireless network.
