Snowstorm Takes Dead Aim on Area
We've certainly seen our share of snow this winter, but the National Weather Service says what could be the biggest snowstorm yet this season for the area is expected to happen over the next couple days.

What forecasters in the Lincoln office, which does forecasts for Galesburg, say is a "significant" winter storm will hit the area. In some cases, they say that will start today, with areas south of Interstate 72 forecast to get some snow along with sleet and freezing rain.

They, they say, the whole area should be in a Winter Storm Watch. Four to seven inches of snow will likely start things off in Galesburg, with the rest likely falling Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning.

The Weather Service says all told, 12 to 20 inches of snow could fall by the end of Wednesday when the Winter Storm Watch is expected to expire.

What's more, the snow should fall heavily at times, and winds could gust up to 40 miles per hour, making blowing and drifting snow a serious concern.

Forecasters say the track of the system could still change, shifting snowfall amounts one way or another, but in any case, some snowfall is expected.

We'll keep you posted on the storms, and have weather, and school information on our website, WGIL.com.
