Blizzard to Roll Through Illinois
Travel is widely discouraged Tuesday as Illinois faces one the biggest snowstorms it's seen in about a decade.

Chris Miller with the National Weather Service says the storm has number of ingredients creating blizzard-like conditions.

"We are in the process right now of issuing a blizzard warning that will be in effect from six am Tuesday until noon on Wednesday. Snowfall totals of, right now we're anticipating snowfall of 12 to 18 inches of snow, there is a lot of moisture that is going to be fed up into this system, that combined with just the strength of the system, enough cold air, and with the strengthening system the winds are going to be increasing."

Winds will consistently be around 20 to 30 miles per hour with gusts as high as 40 miles per hour. He adds that most snowstorms are about 40 to 50 miles wide, but this storm is expected to reach across the northern half of Illinois.

Miller says the heaviest snowfall will occur Tuesday and Tuesday night with only a couple inches of accumulation expected Monday night.
