Lunch Spot Program a Success So Far
The Lunch Spot Program in Galesburg kicked off Monday in a big way.

The Lunch Spot is a program that was created by the Hunger Action group of the People in Galesburg to help local children receive proper meals during their long winter break from school.

Rhonda Brady is a volunteer helping coordinate the program and updated city council members Monday night on the programs inaugural day.

"We prepared just under 400 lunches [Monday], not knowing if we would have more than our 280 kids, who had registered, show up. We wanted to be prepared in case we had more kids walk in and I can tell you that we did have more kids walk in."

Brady adds that donations are still needed to keep lunches going until the end of next week.

District 205 took an extra long winter break this year in order to keep energy costs down, but the Hunger Action group felt children who would normally be served free or reduced lunches at school could suffer.

The Lunch Spot has sack lunches for pick up at 13 locations around Galesburg until January 14th.
