Fleming Challenges Opponent's Election Petitions
A decision could come soon regarding one city candidate's ability to be on the April election ballot.

Chuck Reynolds is running against incumbent Alderman Russell Fleming in the third ward. Fleming, however, has challenged Reynolds' petitions and nominating signatures saying he lacks the required amount.

Petitions for nomination needed to have five percent of the votes based on the turnout from the previous election. In ward three, that would mean at least 19 signatures would be required but Reynolds submitted only 18.

Fleming also argues that three of those signatures shouldn't even be valid because they are printed, not signed.

Additionally, Fleming's objection states that Reynolds' packet did not include the required receipt of economic interest statement That was to be submitted to the Knox County Clerk. Instead Reynolds had included a copy of the verification that the statement was submitted.

An election commission will have to determine if Reynolds will be allowed on the ballot come April. The three member panel could make that determination soon, but WGIL was told they are waiting a document needed from the county recorder first.
