Ryan's Visit with Ill Wife a Solemn One
(IRN)-A spokesman for the hospital where former Illinois First Lady Lura Lynn Ryan is hospitalized says a secret visit by her husband, former Governor George Ryan, was a solemn one.

Carl Maronich says the ex-governor was grateful for the chance to see his wife on Wednesday.

Ryan briefly spoke with a few family members before heading into the room occupied by his wife of 54 years. Maronich says that only prison guards and hospital caretakers were present in the hospital room. He adds that Ryan made sure to seek out one of Lura Lynn's nurses and thanked her for caring for his gravely ill wife.

"She was grateful that he acknowledged her but knowing her, she was just doing her job," Maronich said.

Lura Lynn was hospitalized in Kankakee this week with complications from chemotherapy. She is battling Stage 4 cancer in her lungs, ribs and liver.
Ryan's attorneys had filed for an emergency motion to grant bail pending appeal, but it was turned down.
