Trip to the Spa May Not Be so Pleasant
A trip to to a day spa or med-spa could be dangerous.

A recent compliance check found violations at most of 11 day or med-spas, including lack of a doctor supervision.

Don't know what's needed? Sue Hofer, spokeswoman for the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation says some spa treatments do not require medical supervision.

"Not on just skin, not on hair, not on nails, those kind of treatments can be done by cosmetologists but when you're dealing with layers of skin below the surface or treatments that affect other soft tissues for your body, you are dealing with medicine."

She suggests that you do your research to find out which treatments require supervision by a doctor and which spas actually have a doctor to supervise.
