Back to Springfield for IL Lawmakers
(IRN)-As lawmakers return to Springfield Monday, it's not known what exactly they will be focusing on.

Patty Schuh, spokeswoman for the Senate minority, says lawmakers should be focusing on reforms that can help the state out of its fiscal crisis.

"What we have talked about and have pushed for a long time is a long term solution to get the state’s finances under control," Schuh said. "That discussion has to include Medicaid reform, spending reform, pension reform and changes that make Illinois more competitive so that we can create jobs."

Schuh says just talking about borrowing and raising taxes is not a solution in which the Senate Republicans are interested in participating. The governor has pushed an income tax increase and has considered borrowing $15 billion.

Schuh says to date there hasn't been a meeting among the governor and the four legislative leaders, so what actually will get done this week is anyone’s guess.
