Another Step Taken Toward High Speed Rail
(IRN)-Agreements have been signed between the Illinois Department of Transportation, Union Pacific and Amtrak to continue work on high speed rail projects this spring.

Work is currently suspended on the Lincoln Service corridor between St. Louis and Chicago because of winter weather, but the agreement means work will start up again when it's warmer. Work between Alton and Lincoln will likely resume in March.

At the same time, work will begin on a stretch of rail between Lincoln and Dwight.

"The goal is, by the end of the year, to have 110 mph service between Dwight and Pontiac," IDOT spokesman Guy Tridgell said.

When work resumes, there will likely be some schedule changes on the Lincoln Service and Texas Eagle lines, the extent of which isn't yet known.

High speed rail between St. Louis and Chicago is expected to be complete in 2014.
