Galesburg's Mayor Wants to Investigate Women's Impact
It hasn't been on the mind of the city, and he wants that to change.

Galesburg Mayor Sal Garza says a potential oversight of the city's historical contributions from women hasn't been intentional. But he says it's obvious there's recognition missing.

Garza tells WGIL he wants to avoid a disconnect with the city's history and the impact of it's women.

"This is a real opporutnity for us, to honor," Garza said. "And it doesn't necessarily mean that just women that our notable in the recent past, but really from the beginning, the founding of this community."

"I have to believe that women were instrumental in the forming and shaping in what our community started out as, and where it is today."

Garza is organizing a committee to undertake the necessary research to develop a list of possible females who have left their mark on Galesburg in some fashion.

He says the committee will consist of a diversified slate of women and men that will include Teresa Amott and Lori Sundberg-- respective presidents of Knox and Carl Sandburg College.
