Annual MLK Breakfast Brining Same Splendor
Martin Luther King Jr. Day is Monday, which means it's time again for the annual breakfast in Galesburg to recognize his impact.

The breakfast begins at 7:30 Monday morning at the Central Congregational Church. A junior high essay winner will be announced, and a speaker will share his insights on King.

Tickets are $8-dollars at the door for adults, and $6-dollars for children. President of the M-L-K Celebration Committee Dwight White tells the WGIL Morning News all of the proceeds benefit aspiring college students.

"Whatever we make, we turn it around and give it out in scholarships every year," White said. "So if we make $4,000, then we give out $4,000 in scholarships. If we make $2 (grand), then we give $2,000 in scholarships."

"There's nothing that we use our money for except for that, and that's what the breakfast is all about."

White says money can also be donated to the scholarships by buying ads in the breakfast flyer or by giving at Sunday's tribute to King.

Sunday's celebration is a first time event, according to White. Starting at 4pm at the First Baptist Church, gospel music will be sang and words will be spoken to honor M-L-K.
