Hope Remains for FQHC Status for Health Department
In October they received a high score of 98, but were denied Federally Qualified Health Center status-- the board of health held out hope then, and they're holding out even more now.

Knox County Health Department Administrator Heidi Britton says Congress' approval of $200-million dollars more for the Fiscal 12' year towards health care expansion is good news in the health center's quest to become a FQHC.

Because of a lack in federal funds, only 60 of the first allotted 260 health centers nationwide were awarded funding. Britton says although the fate for Knox County is still unclear, the increased funds under the affordable care act is something to cheer about.

"This is exciting, but we'll just keep plugging along as we always have been, and continue to do things that will resemble what a FQHC would look like," Britton said.

Britton says this will demonstrate to HRSA they can become compliant with their rules and regulations within the required 120 day period upon be awarded FQHC status.

According to Britton, that compliancy is nothing unmanageable or overwhelming.
