County's Health Officials Launch 5-year Plan
Growing a community garden and expanding dentistry were among the many 2011 achievements for the Knox County Health Department, but perhaps the biggest accomplishment was formulating their 5-year Strategic Plan.

Administrator Heidi Britton says she's thankful for the entire staff and their amazing energy and hard work for five months in developing this clear model for the next handful of years.

Britton says she's hopeful the Strategic Plan will guide the department in unison to achieve the outlined goals.

"I hope that as we move through this over the year, that it helps us as a team," Britton said. "Because I really see this not just as our strategic plan, but it's what we're trying to support as well."

"That as a group we can move through this strategic plan that you all approved as group together, and that we're accountable to you, and that we understand it better."

The plan includes cultural competency training for employees, forming a childhood obesity task force, monitoring finances more responsibly, and pursuing additional community effective programs and services.

Britton says also health officials will strive to improve each facet of the health department separately to devote more focus as part of a quality improvement plan.
