Man Drowns while Ice Fishing
UPDATED 11:30am 1/16/12 A Galva resident is the man who died while attempting to ice fish Sunday afternoon in rural Knox County.

The Knox County Sheriffs Department says 50-year old Allen Johnson of Galva was pronounced dead hours after the incident first reported around 1:20pm Sunday at Long Lake south of Victoria.

Sheriffs officials say Johnson had been dropped off by his son at the lake. The son then tried to call his father's cell phone about a half-hour later and didn't get an answer.

Authorities say the son then found a small tent and fishing equipment in the water.

Two dive teams were called in, and they found Johnson in just under two feel of water.

Sheriffs officials say the thickness of the ice was only three-quarters of an inch at the time of the accident.

They say an investigation into the drowning continues.
