Library Board Wants More Space
The process has begun to update a plan for a new Galesburg Public Library building.

The plan was first crafted in 2007, and the board's building committee Tuesday talked about what they wanted to add or take out of it.

Among the thing they want to revise in the plan is space. Board member Mike Kroll says not enough space is included in the 2007 plan, even though space is what he believes is needed the most.

Kroll says meeting space should be one of the main priorities.

"I think it's one of the most common comments, they like the fact that the library is a more accomodating place for people to talk and work together," Kroll said. "But some people want to have quiet places to read or what not, and we have no place to do that."

"So I think we definately have to have a way to do a quiet reading room. And we also have to have room for people who are working in projects together that might even be louder than people talking quietly at a table and have a place to work."

Kroll says the 2007 report doesn't give much space either for things like computer terminals, and people who want to use their laptops in the library, and he'd like to see that go the other way.

The committee will meet again in February. The board is still set on building a new facility in the 200 block of West Main Street.
