Abingdon City Council Member's Home Destroyed by Fire
UPDATED 1:33pm 1/18/12 An Abingdon alderman is without a home after it was destroyed by fire during Tuesday night's City Council meeting.

Abingdon Fire Chief Greg Schisler says his crews were called to 211 Brookview Court around 7pm Tuesday for a report of a structure fire. The home there was on land that Schisler says is owned by Third Ward Alderman Jason Johnson.

Schisler says the home was gutted by the fire, and it took crews upwards of an hour and a half to get the blaze under control. He says the cold weather hampered firefighting efforts, as well as time.

Schisler believes the home had been on fire for some time before his department was called and arrived on the scene.

Schisler says the cause of the fire remains unknown, and an investigation into what happened continues.

The Office of the State Fire Marshal is assisting in the investigation.

No one was hurt, and no one was home at the time the fire broke out.
