Family Displaced after New Year's Day Fire
Over a half-dozen Monmouth residents are getting some assistance after a New Years Day fire damaged their home.

Monmouth Firefighters say the blaze in the nine-hundred block of South 2nd Street was first reported around 3:25 Sunday afternoon, and was under control in about 30 minutes.

They say crews were able to contain the fire in the single-family one-story home to one room and the front porch.

No one was hurt. The Western Illinois chapter of the American Red Cross says they're providing assistance to five-adults and three-children who were in the home, though fire officials could not confirm how many people were inside at the time of the fire.

The official cause has not been determined. The fire remains under investigation.
