Knox County United Way Reaches Goal
FIRST REPORTED 3pm 1/20/12 On December 29th, two days before the 2012 Campaign was set to close, United Way of Knox County was still $40,000 shy of their goal-- but that's a distant memory today.

It was announced Friday afternoon at the agency's annual meeting and recognition luncheon that the $360,000 goal had been obtained.

Executive Director Ann Tucker tells WGIL it was the board's decision to extend the campaign into the new year that made the difference.

"Thanks to my board, to the campaign cabinet, we just called anybody and everybody," Tucker said. "We had a couple company campaigns come in that really helped us out, and we reached [the goal]."

2011 president Kelli Bennewitz says she's also grateful of the United Way's own employees who worked so hard.

"They talked to individuals, they scheduled campaign presentations, they're very dedicated, and they do a lot of the footwork. We couldn't do it without them. So, thank you," Bennewitz said.

Bennewitz says the ones who donate exemplify what it means to "Live United."

The donations fund programs and services for over 20 partner agencies of the United Way in Knox County.
