Local Jobless Numbers Virtually Stable
The unemployment situation in the immediate area is virtually stable, while in some nearby counties, it's not.

The Illinois Department of Employment Security says the December jobless average for Knox County went up a tenth of a point from November, to eight-point-four percent. That's the equivalent of ten more people in the county being listed as without work.

In Galesburg alone, the figure went up two-tenths to eight-point-eight-percent, an increase of about 15 people.

Warren County's jobless rate is at seven-point-two percent, an increase of a tenth of a percent, but only about two people.

That puts the state's combined Galesburg-area unemployment rate at eight-point-one percent.

Mercer County saw a huge increase, for them, in December. Their rate went up over two-full-percentage points to nine-point-seven percent, but the rate only increased by about two-hundred people.

Stark County saw 30 more of its residents declare unemployment in December. Their rate is now an even 10 percent.

In the year-over-year period, the state says non-farm payroll jobs increased by 550.

The December numbers have yet to be seasonally-adjusted.
