North Street it is for Fiber Optic Line in Knoxville
It's contingent on a future agreement between Knoxville Alderman and Golden Field Services on a digging depth, but the city council approved last night a fiber optic line to be installed on the south side of North Street.

Barry Phillips is a representative with the Tulsa-based engineering firm. He says the south side of North provides less resistance for excavation than downtown Main Street.

"We'll just be passing through your community," Phillips said. "Typically it's on the DOT right of way coming, on each side of town. But with the downtown, the concrete and the sidewalk we approached the city to give off the downtown area by a block and just come through North Street to avoid tearing up the sidewalk."

The telecommunications upgrade consists of a 75 mile fiber optic line to be looped from Peoria to Macomb.

Phillips says on the clockwise path of connectivity, the fiber optic line will pass through Knoxville after traveling through Monmouth and Galesburg.

The project will enable fiber to bounce off towers to improve cell phone connectivity and offer more telecommunication capabilities.

Installation in Knoxville should be completed in March.
