Momentum Won for Iowa Caucus Champ
One political consultant called it the kickoff to the 2012 Presidential Election.

Robin Johnson is a political science professor with Monmouth College, and says Tuesday night's GOP Caucus winner, Mitt Romney, in Iowa has a significant advantage moving into the other primaries.

Johnson tells WGIL it's all about momentum.

"You're going to have the South Carolina primary and Florida one coming up right after that, so this starts moving fast," Johnson said. "I think perception also plays a big role in this."

"People who are perceived as having momentum, even if you don't win and maybe get second place, it can certainly help to build fund-raising, volunteers, and positive momentum heading into the rest of the race."

Johnson says Iowa's system of rounding up supporters to actually make appearances in each of the over 1700 precincts last night puts a premium on organization.

He says he expects the top three candidates from the Iowa caucus of Romney, Rick Santorum, and Ron Paul to continue on.

The New Hampshire primary is next week, with Florida and South Carolina to follow. Illinois' primary is slated for March.
