Colorado Man Pleads Guilty to Pot Charges
A Colorado man caught in Galesburg with what was considered to be a large amount of marijuana on him.

36-year old Russell Meyer pleaded guilty in Knox County Circuit Court Wednesday afternoon to a single count of Possession of Cannabis. A charge of Possession of Cannabis with Intent to deliver was dropped.

Galesburg Police were reportedly doing a check of the Galesburg Amtrak depot in early October with a K-9 unit when they came upon Meyer getting off a train from Denver.

Assistant Knox County State's Attorney Erik Gibson said Meyer originally denied having cannabis on him, but later admitted to having some, because it was legal in Colorado for him to have it for medicinal use.

A search of Meyer's luggage allegedly turned up almost a pound of marijuana in various containers.

Meyer, who has no criminal record to speak of, was sentenced to 28 days in the Knox County Jail as part of a plea deal, with credit for 4 days already served. Meyer, however, only has to serve 10 more days in jail.

Judge Scott Shipplett told Meyer while he can still smoke pot in Colorado, quote, "don't come back." to Knox County.
