Lighting Work Approved for Orpheum
Lighting upgrade work at Galesburg's Orpheum Theatre should start either this week or next now that bids have been approved for the project.

The Knox County Civic Center Authority Board has approved about 130-thousand dollars worth of work for the theatre as part of an overall capital improvement project funds are in the process of being raised for. The work includes upgrading of stage lights to energy-efficient L-E-D's, upgrades to house and other building lights, and newer, more energy-efficient spotlights.

Theatre president Kate Francis says only one bid was received -- from Galesburg's Mangieri Electric -- but not for lack of trying.

"We did have another entity visit the theatre during the recommended pre-bid meeting, that met with the KJWW representatives, did the walk through, did the inventory," she said. "And then they called and said they would be late with their bid."

Francis says that would have disqualified the firm, so they never sent in a bid.

The work should take less than a month, putting it well within the time frame to remain eligible for the federal economic stimulus grant that will pay for the work.
