Success in Galesburg's Economic Development Efforts
We're able to up our economic development game.

Those are the words of Galesburg Economic Development Director Cesar Suarez on the success of the city's economic development efforts in 2011, thank mostly to the development of the Entrepreneurs, Business, and Industry Network, or E-B-I, with a state grant received several years ago.

Suarez tells the WGIL Morning News he believes the figures are helping the city prepare for the future.

"Just in numbers alone and results, certainly we've done more in 2011 than in previous years," he said. "An example would be we've located about 15 projects in the year in th previous years it was 15 and 10. And another thing in terms of job creation and attention, we've hit the 450 mark-- whereas in the previous years it was around 280 or so."

Suarez describes 2011 has been a huge success in that regard. But he says in the last quarter of the year alone, seven projects have been committed to, which he believes is very exciting, even though there's more to do.

The city's business incubator at the Sustainable Business Center is nearly two-thirds full, with hopes that it will grow to three-quarters.
