Community College Files Strike Notice
Faculty at Spoon River Community College are weighing their options of a possible strike at the college.

The Spoon River College Faculty Association has filed an intent to strike notice with the Illinois Education Labor Relations Board.

SRCFA President Stacy Swanson tells WGIL the College wasn't blind sided by SRCFA's filing.

"December of 2011, they submitted a demand to bargain to the college," says Swanson. "The first meeting with the administration was March 2nd of 2012, and they laid out all the ground rules and they negotiated so we've had 17 sessions, two of them with a federal mediator involved."

Swanson says filing the letter of intent does not mean they'll necessarily strike after the ten day notice is up but it gives them the option.

Spoon River Community College President Curt Oldfield tells WGIL both sides are working hard to come to an agreement in the hope to curve the SRCFA from striking.

"Progress has been made, but the College intends to keep bargaining with the hope to reach an agreement that's satisfactory to both the College and the Faculty Association," says Oldfield.

The SRCFA is hoping to reach an agreement over salary, insurance, and professional advancement.

There are two more negotiation sessions scheduled with the next one on January 22.
