District 205 Reviewing Safety Policy
A presentation at last Monday night's District 205 Board of Education meeting showed plans in the works for improving school safety.

The District will be bringing the Illinois State Police in to give a presentation on how to handle a potentially deadly "school shooter" situation.

Items such as putting bullet proof glass on the front of buildings and putting the school's offices near the front door were among the suggestions.

Superintendent Bart Arthur says that all the schools in the district have held their safety plan meetings.

"Everybody's in compliance, they've had their lock down drills with the police enforcement, they've reviewed their plans, and as a district we will continue to review the plans," says Arthur. "We are including Curt Kramer from the Police Department out at the High School, then we will review what we are going to do as a district."

Arthur says that security officers suggest buying time is the biggest advantage in potentially violent incidents.

District 205 reviews their safety plan annually to bring it up to date.

Board members discussed at length the possibility of adding safety elements into the Master Facilities plan.

The board disagreed, however, on the best way to go about implementing safety measures.
