Building Committee Recommends Rejecting Courthouse HVAC Bids
Plans for work to be done on the Knox County Courthouse hit a bump at Thursday night's County Board Building Committee meeting.

After requesting bids on the project, each of the five bids came back significantly higher than was budgeted.

The committee voted unanimously to reject the bids and meet with Metzger-Johnson architects to review the plans and look for ways to cut costs.

Owner's Representative Donnie Gladfelter says after figuring out how to cut costs, he'll come back to the committee.

"I think it would be too hard to define apples for apples if everybody come [sic] up with," Gladfelter said. "I don't think, being a public entity, that would be to our advantage to try and single out just one."

Bids came in at least $300,000 over budget which was described as being significant.

The County had only budgeted $1.6 million for the renovations on the HVAC system.

The Building committee will meet again in mid-February to take another look at the bids.
