City Budget Process Under Scrutiny Monday Night
After 2013's frustrating budget approval process, the Galesburg City Council seems determined to make 2014's adoption process smoother.

The City Council has scheduled monthly work sessions to tackle different parts of City management, including: taxes, pensions, and economic development.

Monday night, however, the City needs a starting place by reviewing the Budget Process itself.

Ideas have been forming in recent weeks, ranging from going over individual line items to having the conversations be "free-form."

Mayor Sal Garza has been on record saying he will manage the meetings how he always does to handle the mix of opinions.

2013's budget was adopted with just over 90-million dollars in expenditures and slumping tax revenue forced cuts in the operating budget.

City Manager Todd Thompson sent aldermen his recommendation for at least the next budget year, but refuse to comment on the matter specifically.
