Co-Counsel Approved for Defense in Kiwanis Park Murder Case
An additional attorney has been granted to help represent the man accused of shooting and killing a Galesburg man at Kiwanis Park in 2011.

Knox County Circuit Court Judge Paul Mangieri yesterday okayed the motion for additional counsel in the case of 46-year old Overton Fisher, facing murder charges for the death of 21-year old Jemell Ware back in late-June of 2011.

Harrell cited the fact he's got a large caseload, and that he has other homicide-related cases pending -- including the shooting last year that left one man dead and Jereme Carter of Monmouth also facing murder charges, as well as the case of Lakeesha Smith, facing Vehicular Homicide charges for the death of Knox College Junior Tundun Lawani.

Attorney Steve Glasgow from Monmouth was appointed to assist Harrell. Mangieri cited the fact that the alternate Public Defenders on contract with Knox County can't do it.

Glasgow says he's "excited" to start work on the case.

Assistant State's Attorney Elisa Tanner was denied a request to have Long's fees capped, citing the county's tight budget situation.

Mangieri said the Sixth Amendment means Fisher has a right to adequate counsel.

Fisher is scheduled for a pre-trial hearing March fourth in the case, and remains jailed on $3 million bond.

Most of the other people arrested in the case have already pleaded, some of which reportedly agreed to testify against Fisher as part of their plea deals.
