New District Starts Taking Shape
The district-276 school board met last night to in an effort to continue with the creation of the new Abingdon/Avon consolidated school district.

The board made several decisions last night including hiring the law firm of Miller, Tracy, Braun, Funk and Miller out of Monticello to represent the district.

The law firm is the same one used by the Abingdon School district and School Board President Sherry Lomax tells WGIL out of the two submissions the board thought they were the most qualified.

"The board felt that they were predominantly school law," says Lomax. "All of their lawyers, and so that's the one we went with."

The board also signed two letters requesting permission to join the Knox-Warren Special Education Cooperative as well as the Delabar Career and Technical Educational System.

Lomax says both organizations are aware the new district is interested in joining and says there should be no issues.

She says they should hear back rather quickly about the matter.

The board also announced they were able to get the bugs out of the districts website and people should have no issues getting to the site from either the Abingdon or Avon schools websites.

Lomax also says the board has received more that a hundred submissions for the naming and mascot contest.

Submission for the contest must be submitted by January 24.
