Man Accused In Thanksgiving Meth Bust Pleads Not Guilty
An Abingdon man says he's not guilty of charges he's facing since his arrest around Thanksgiving Day on felony methamphetamine charges.

52-year old Kevin Smith was arraigned this morning in Knox County Circuit Court on charges including Unlawful Participation in Methamphetamine Production, and a number of lesser felony meth-related charges.

Smith and 35-year old Craig Fox of Wataga were arrested last November 22nd following a traffic stop made by a Knox County Sheriffs Deputy on a rural Knox County road south of Abingdon.

Deputies say Smith was orignally booked on a Mercer County warrant, but a search of the vehicle the two were in allegedly turned up anhydrous ammonia and another container with a white substance inside.

Through Public Defender Jim Harrell, Smith also asked for a trial by jury during the brief hearing today.

A pre-trial hearing in the case has been scheduled for February fourth, with a trial starting as soon as February 18th.

Fox, meanwhile, is believed to have entered a drug treatment program according to court records, though a preliminary hearing that was to be held last month is scheduled now for January 22nd.
